A short introduction to Block Therapy and how the practice uses breath, pressure and body awareness.
Deep diaphragmatic breathing helps bring attention back to the body and can support a calmer, more grounded state.
Targeted pressure from a wooden block or rolled towel helps focus on areas of restriction associated with stress, posture, repetitive motion or injury.
The practice invites you to listen to what your body is communicating and create more space, ease and trust from the inside out.
Block Therapy is a bodywork practice that uses targeted pressure from a wooden block, or a rolled-up towel, with deep diaphragmatic breathing to address adhesions in the fascia, the body’s connective tissue.
Adhesions can be associated with always-on modern lifestyles: sitting at a computer, constant use of smartphones, slumped posture and shallow breathing. These patterns may contribute to a forward-leaning posture, sensations of tightness and reduced flexibility.
Block Therapy focuses on adhesions associated with repetitive motion, injury, misalignment and stress to naturally support better posture and alignment.

Learn MoreDeep, natural breaths from the diaphragm expand and round the belly and are associated with a parasympathetic state often referred to as “rest and digest.” Shallow breathing can be associated with a feeling of fight-or-flight, making it more difficult to relax.
Block Therapy focuses on breathing patterns and the diaphragm. Addressing adhesions in the core may help bring awareness to the diaphragm, and deeper breaths can help support a sense of calm.
The forward posture associated with modern living can become more noticeable over time. Many people look to counteract this with yoga, Pi-Yo, Pilates or stretching, but sometimes the class doesn’t feel quite as good as hoped.
This may be associated with fascial restrictions that limit range of movement. Heat and pressure created through Block Therapy offers the body a mini reset, focusing on areas where adhesions may be present within the body’s connective network.
Office work and the sitting it requires is hard on the body. As stress peaks, the breath can shorten and the body may start to hunch, bracing for the next thing headed your way.
Short, regular blocking sessions throughout the day can help create a sense of openness in the body and may support a mind and body that feel more equipped to handle daily stressors.
Bodies that don’t feel great are less inclined to move. Block Therapy meets you where you are in the moment and in the body you’re in now.
Over time, the combination of pressure from the block and deep breathing can create a sensation of increased awareness and energy in the body. When movement starts to feel natural again, activities you thought you lost may become more accessible.
Fascia connects the entire body through a structural network associated with movement patterns. Restrictions in the fascia can be associated with performance plateaus and mobility ceilings.
Using pressure and diaphragmatic breath, Block Therapy focuses on restrictions within the body’s connective tissue, joints and muscles in relation to mobility, recovery and strength.
